For months Barcode Scanner has been at the top of Google Play recommendations. The product was quite popular and had over 10 million downloads and was even included into the list of recommended. However, it turned out that the application was malicious and sent the gullible users to a suspicious site.
Google Play includes a special protection algorithm called Google Play Protection, which guards users against malicious apps, however, even it failed to discern that there was a Trojan in the scanner.
As of today, the application has been removed from the store, but other products of publisher LAVABIRD LTD are still available for download.
